The Fountainhead is an upcoming series adapted from Ayn Rand's novel of the same name by Zack Snyder. The project currently does not have any specific plans to move forward, but has not been canceled.
Synopsis[]
Howard Roark, a talented architect, is held back by his refusal to meet the needs of his clients, instead unleashing his creativity. He eventually takes on a new building design which causes him to draw the attention of Ellsworth Toohey, a critic opposed to creative talent in architecture. Toohey manipulates a businessman to hire Roark to design a building, then sue him once it's built, forcing Roark to lose his business. Gail Wynand, an old classmate of Roark's whose work had been declining, then hires Roark to design buildings for the Cortlandt Homes public housing project and allow Wynand to take the credit, which intrigues Roark. He designs the project, but it's altered during construction, and so Roark destroys it. When his case is brought to trial, Roark manages to sway the jury into a not-guilty verdict.

Production[]
Snyder had long planned on adapting The Fountainhead as a movie, first revealing it on May 28, 2018, at which point he stated it would be his next project (previously believed to be The Last Photograph).[1] This was shortly before his first deal with Netflix, which saw him head in a different direction, leading to the production of Army of the Dead. The film would have picked up after Army, however, due to the political climate of the United States at the time, Snyder decided to hold off. He had a script in progress, but it was then being written as a series instead of a movie.[2] On November 28, 2023, Wired released an interview with Snyder focusing on his upcoming Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire. In it, the author, Hemal Jhaveri, mentions that Snyder showed him the screenplay for The Fountainhead, seemingly complete.[3] Snyder reaffirmed this on the Joe Rogan Experience in March 2024, noting that while he wanted to move forward with the series, no one wanted to make it. He sees his work in movies akin to the architect's attempts at building the buildings he wants, but being diverted to the point of unrecognizability in the process.[4]
