Steve Shibuya is a screenwriter who attended ArtCenter College of Design with Zack Snyder where the two met. During this time, Shibuya appeared in "For a Moment Alive", one of Snyder's student films. Snyder had the concept for Sucker Punch around 1996 and brought it to Shibuya to partner up on the story. They spent a few years passing the script back and forth until Snyder began the production of Dawn of the Dead and became a bit too busy to continue the work on Sucker Punch, but Shibuya kept up with it and the film was eventually picked up by Warner Bros.
